Chasing Blooms: A Diary of the 2025 West Coast Flower Season

There’s a special kind of magic that happens on the West Coast every spring. One moment, the landscapes are dry and quiet after winter. Then, almost overnight, the fields and hills explode into colour with daisies, vygies, and wild bulbs transforming the region into one of the most spectacular natural displays on earth.

This year’s flower season started a little later than usual, but that only made the show more rewarding. By mid-August, the first carpets of orange and yellow appeared, and by September the West Coast was glowing.

If you had to pick just one stop, the West Coast National Park is the crown jewel. The Postberg section, which only opens during flower season, delivered its usual magic: wide rolling fields of daisies swaying in the breeze, with the lagoon sparkling in the distance. The Seeberg viewpoint was another highlight, a gentle walk leading to a panoramic view that makes you stop and breathe it all in.

Pro tip: Arrive early and pack a picnic. The flowers always turn their faces towards the sun, so late mornings are perfect for photos.

Flower season is about more than just ticking off sights. It’s about slowing down, pulling over at a random patch of daisies, letting kids run through the fields, or simply sitting with a flask of coffee while the colours stretch out around you.

Each year is slightly different, depending on the rains and sunshine, but that’s part of the charm. The anticipation, the unpredictability, the sheer delight of discovering a new burst of colour around the corner is what keeps you coming back.

If you missed it this year, don’t worry, the flowers will return next spring, as they always do. Plan your trip between mid-August and mid-September, keep an eye on local flower reports and remember, sometimes the best moments happen off the main roads, when you least expect them.

Because on the West Coast, spring isn’t just a season. It’s a celebration.
